Work LocationThis internship is designed to be full-time and in person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate. Expected duration6 months (flexible) Duties and ResponsibilitiesThis internship is located in the Office of the Assistant-General for Human Resources (OASG OHR) in the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC), in New York. The intern will report to the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary-General or the Human Resources Officer. Liaise with different offices regarding individual communications requests and provide assistance with the review and publication of OHR communication material (incl. articles, broadcasts); Assist with proofreading and editing of content for print, web and multimedia, events and publications; Assist with web content updates; Make proposals and suggestions to improve on web graphic and design (create graphics, logos, digital material as necessary); Evaluate adequacy of existing records management and reference tools, and participate in record keeping improvement projects and make recommendations; Contribute to Information Systems enhancements; Assist in drafting notes, speech-writing, messaging, preparation of reports and background documents; Provide statistics and run reports related to the work of the office as requested; Assist in preparing presentation materials including graphs, charts, excel tables and PowerPoint slides; Assist with other HR strategy implementation; Qualifications/special skillsApplicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Educational background or exposure to human resources, public administration or related issues is desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, Excel and MS Teams. LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Fluency in French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage. Arabic, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additional InformationVisa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For in-person internships in the United States of America, persons who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant visa status (such as F-1 or J-1 visa), will be required to obtain a G-4 visa for a full-time (at least 35 hours per week) internship. Candidates who are on a non-immigrant visa status as students such as F-1 or J-1 visa with an employment authorization will only be able to intern on a part-time basis. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
