Transforming the Future with Convergence of Simulation and Data Senior Functional Safety Engineer Job Summary Our client in Normal, IL is looking for a Senior Functional Safety Engineer. This is a contract position.
What You Will Do Most Important skills/responsibilities:
- Work with engineering, operations and equipment vendors for design and commissioning activities .
- Conduct Equipment Safety Buyoffs with a cross-functional team .
- Complete Risk Assessments in accordance with ISO 12100 and Our Client´s standards.
In this role, you will be involved with the design and specifications for new machinery and equipment for Engineering & Manufacturing sites. You will also be an active participant in equipment acceptance testing and commissioning as well as evaluating proposed changes to equipment and machinery for safety requirements.
- Work with engineering, operations and equipment vendors for design and commissioning activities .
- Develop equipment safety standards where needed and continuously improve existing standards .
- Complete Risk Assessments in accordance with ISO 12100 and Our Client´s standards .
- Conduct Equipment Safety Buyoffs with a cross-functional team .
- Identify safety opportunities and suggest corrective actions for continuous improvement.
- Create and deliver training related to equipment and machinery safety .
- Maintain detailed records of equipment compliance.
- Work with department EHS staff to support as needed.
- Participate in learning teams, investigations, inspections, audits, etc. as needed.
Basics What You Will Need: - Demonstrated familiarity with mechanical, electrical, automation, and control system design.
- Experience with ANSI, UL, NFPA, ISO and other applicable standards .
- Experience interpreting electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic safety circuits and evaluating performance level & circuit structure.
- Comprehensive knowledge of electrical circuit design in accordance with NEC, UL 508a, and NFPA 79.
Preferred - Certified Functional Safety Professional CFSP/CFSE .
- Certified Machine Safety Expert.
- Experience in Battery/EV Manufacturing.
- Experience with national Standards Development (UL,NFPA,ANSI).
- Working knowledge of hazardous area classifications, occupancy classification, hazardous material inventories.
