The Opportunity

We are currently looking to add a Staff Hydrogeologist/Engineering Geologist to support our Hydrogeology and Water Supply team in the Southeast Florida, Fort Myers, Coral Gables, or Coral Springs office. 


Black & Veatch is seeking a motivated, self-reliant, and detail-oriented Staff Hydrogeologist to join our team. This position may consist of an 80/20 mix of field and office assignments, respectively. There is also a potential for full time field assignments. This position will also include national focused support groundwater and underground injection control (ASR, MAR, deep well disposal, carbon sequestration, and hydrogen storage) types of projects.  This includes technical report writing and other hydrogeologic and water resources related activities. This individual will also be responsible for supporting and evaluation of data in the field and in the office, preparation of well permit applications, technical specifications and bid documents, preparation of work definition documents, schedules and budgets, and support of report preparation

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing professional hydrogeological support for a wide range of domestic and potentially, international projects
  • Interpreting federal, state and local codes, rules and regulations
  • Preparing work plans, reports, and proposals
  • Working with project technical leads, project managers, and delivery teams to ensure that deliverables meet client needs
  • Evaluating and interpreting collected data for water resources, hydrogeologic, underground injection control projects
  • Prepare graphical and tabular summaries of data 
  • Providing competent report writing
  • Preparation of presentations that summarize results of water resource and hydrogeologic assessments for clients and other technical professionals
  • Strong organizational and communications skills (able to communicate solutions in writing, verbally and graphically) 
  • Adherence to internal company health and safety and other processes and policies
  • Supervision of subcontractors including drillers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science and/or Master of Science in Geology or Engineering Geology required 
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in water resources and hydrogeology 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Be able to work in the field in remote locations in Florida and also areas of the United States 
  • Hold a valid driver’s license 
  • Self-starter, professional appearance, positive attitude, takes initiative, detail oriented, excellent communications skills, and good writing skills 
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint 
  • ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Microstation or other graphical analysis tools a plus 
  • Familiarity in Groundwater Vistas, gINT, Visual Modflow, Aqesolv, SEAWAT or other related calibration, environmental and hydrogeologic modeling software assessments a plus 
  • HAZWOPER and MSHA safety certifications preferred (and/or interest in obtaining) 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Science or Environmental Science required
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience performing duties similar to those of a Hydrogeologist 2

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
  • Some employees are subject to extreme cold (temperatures below 30 degrees for periods of more than one hour), extreme heat (temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour), hazards (electrical currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposures to chemicals), atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation), and oils. Some employees are required to use respiratory systems as a result of fumes, mists, gases, or to comply with governmental regulatory requirements. All positions require the following physical abilities: talking, fingering, grasping, hearing, keyboard input, seeing, and writing. All positions require the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. Work involves sitting most of the time. Some positions require the following physical abilities: reaching, climbing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, walking, standing, pulling, lifting, pushing, carrying, and driving. Some positions require the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
